“Hunt Damask” is based on one of the most celebrated damask designs. Large feather, thistle acanthus foliage, artichoke and pomegranate.
The damask, originally called Diaspron, has been cherished by emperors and kings since it was first introduced in China in 300 BC. Traded along the Silk Road, the caravans passed through Damaskus, the center of Syria, which became a hub for manufacturing silk. By the 14th century, these luxury fabrics were known as Damasks. A stylish take on the Newport Damask, this fabric features a thistle artichoke motif with broadly spreading leaves.
Very high quality 100% cotton. Heavy, steady and tightly woven. Almost 1lb/yard! Regular good quality cotton damask is about 0.5lb/yard.
Photos cannot capture its quality.
It is 100% cotton but does feel slightly silky and shining, because the mercerized cotton yarn is known for its polished, lustrous appearance and enhanced strength.
This colorway “Special Ivory” was made for special projects and probably a historical restoration.
Truly special. The palette from another era will be an education to our taste today.
