Casa d’or means House of Gold. This printed velvet from Italy is literally made for a palace. The prints are so artistic that it is both iridescent and has the antique patina.
The Ca’ d’Oro or Palazzo Santa Sofia is a palace on the Grand Canal in Venice, northern Italy. One of the older palaces in the city, its name means “golden house” due to the gilt and polychrome external decorations which once adorned its walls.
The Ca’ d’Oro, one of the most prestigious late Gothic palaces in Venice, gathers up the important art collection of the Baron Giorgio Franchetti (1865-1927), who in 1916 donated his collections and the building itself to the Italian State, after having made it magnificent as in the past with some restorations.
