DESIGN INSPIRATION:
A celebrated perennial design, this grois Point/epingle named Xi’an is timelessly versatile.
In earthy 100% cotton, made in Italy, you won’t believe how heavy and sturdy Xi’an is until you hold it in your hands!
Xi’an, the ancient capital of China, is a treasure trove of history and design. China’s most important and longest dynasties, Western Zhou, Han and Tang all had its capital there. (Beijng came much later.)
If this small flora pattern reminds you of kimono motif, that’s because it was during Tang Dynasty, thousands of Japanese scholars and artists were sent to study in Xi’an. This noble motif, a simplified version of peony, lotus and chrysanthemum wrapped into one blossom, representing the perfection of Buddhist enlightenment, was ubiquitous in Chang’an (Xi’an’s ancient name), on its ceilings, in lady’s makeup, in bricks, in lacquerware, in porcelain and certainly in textile.
The small scale pattern contains several subtle colors that will blend in yet stand out in any aesthetics. This will bring any upholstery project to life and lasts forever.
