Description
On Lorraine, the garlands of colored flowers in shaded tones, twist vertically up a delicately textured surface originally one of the new floral designs made fashionable by Madame de Pompadour, Louis XV’s favorite. Under the influence of the marquise, the use of fresh colors created an atmosphere of eternal spring.
These so-called “lace” motifs were very fashionable around early 18th century France. Designers were seeking a less austere and, above all, lighter and more delicate effect. During this period decorations became more feminine.
