Almota is a hand crewel by Lee Jofa. Almora that takes days and weeks to create. Beautiful jungle animals painstakingly portrayed by fiber.
Base cloth is a heavy cotton canvas, soft yet steady to hold the heavy wool threads. Lions’ magnificent mane, peacock’s showy feather, elephants cool expression, deer’s joyous leap, giraffe being alert, monkey plotting again, leopard’s whiskers… all the animals among the lush foliage of great outdoors.
The details are endless. It is remarkable how the designer and artisans use a few relatively simple colors to capture the nuances of each animal’s inner world!
MSRP $316/yard a few years ago. Now such hand crewel retails for $400+/yard.
