If there is such a thing as timeless design, PIllement is definitely one of them. This classic Chinoiserie toile has been loved and recreated by designers around the world. The landscape, the oversized flowers, the stone staircases leading to a tall pagoda and the scholarly figure pointing to a "higher place" create an uplifting mood. Hiking and admiration of Nature (in capital letters) is a spiritual journey in Chinese culture, as well as many others. Maybe that's why this very "ethnic" design have continued to find comradery cross centuries and many continents.

Our Pillement Toile print pays homage to the work of French artist Jean-Baptiste Pillement by featuring his iconic motifs of oversized flowers, a winding staircase, and an ornate pagoda. His original document was housed in a book of Bromley Hall patterns dating from 1760 to 1800 and was printed.
