Palampores, or tree-of-life patterns, have their origins in India, where the exotic designs were hand painted and mordant dyed, and exported to Europe and England for use as elaborate bed hangings and curtains. Scalamandré’s classic tree-of-life print, Pondicherry, boasts a grand scale, exotic tree that is softened with finely detailed flowers and foliage, and is accented with the small birds and animals that are typical of this historic design. The vertically branching print is perfect for floor-length curtain panels, or as upholstery for roomy club and wing chairs. A timeless design, intended to be enjoyed.
