Rose, artichoke, pomegranate, iris, acanthus----all the beautiful things from a heavenly kingdom. When you learn the history of San Leucio, you will understand its utopia-like beauty. The official colorname is "Beige", while actual silk is a soothing pale shade of gold or butter, mixed with ivory and beige. Overall tone is warm and gentle. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the hillside resort area of San Leucio in Caserta is known for its long-standing silk production, which was begun by Ferdinand IV in 1773. The sprawling Belvedere Palace houses the Living Silk Museum, where original looms and machinery are on display. Pizzerias and seafood restaurants sit close to Piazza Trattoria, the site of the annual Sagra delle Pallottole potato croquette festival. In 1759, when Charles III was crowned King of Spain, he left the rule of the Kingdoms of Naples and Sicily largely in the hands of his third surviving son, Ferdinand IV. Among his many ground breaking projects, Ferdinand transformed the Palazzo del Belvedere, at the time used as Royal hunting lodge, into a factory, and the small village of San Leucio, into a full-scale industrial and social experiment. Thus, in 1778, the utopian town of "Ferdinandopoli" was created: an ideal city constructed around a Royal Silk Factory. Although Ferdinand's utopian dream was rudely interrupted in 1799 by the onset of the French Revolution, San Leucio continued to produce precious silk, and even today the flags of both the White House and Buckingham Palace are made here, in Caserta's Royal Silk Factory. Sample Shipping
Shipping for samples is $4.99 within the United States. Samples are mailed with USPS Ground in a manila envelope. This allows us to offer tracking for all your sample orders, which customers have found very helpful. We used to offer a stamp option for samples shipping but we found that most customers wanted tracking, so we eliminated that as an option.
What if I want my samples expedited? We can offer USPS Priority mail which is 2-4 business days. Just check out for "Standard" shipping. It's the shipping that costs $8.49 and we will get that to you right away.

Fabric orders, except special and custom orders, can be returned within 30 days of receipt for refund or exchange, minus a 20% restocking fee. No questions asked. Buyer pays return shipping. Please be advised return shipping cost more than $8.99. (Most of our parcels cost $30-100 to ship & we are actually paying part of the shipping when you purchase fabrics here.) Merchandise must be in original condition (uncut, clean & no damage).
